Here is an interesting Customer Travel Post #2823: Using the SelectWisely cards in Peru, Egypt and Spain and providing useful travel tips.
"I have had serious food allergies (to cashews, sulfites and allium food family) for quite some time. A long time ago I made a trip to Italy and before I departed I asked a friend who spoke Italian to write a translation of what I wanted to say in Italian. He did that and it made my travels so much easier.
Afterwards I had read and saved articles in the Washington Post and The New York Times about the SelectWisely food allergy cards. The next time I travelled, I bought some cards and I found them very successful. That was in Peru. I also used them in Egypt and Spain.
I use them a lot here in the United States and servers love them. It makes their job so much easier. I can see them look worried and then light up when they realize it is not going to be so hard after all. Sometimes they photograph the card or take it back to the kitchen for the chef. Here in DC/ Virginia the kitchen staff may speak Spanish and the English/Spanish card is very helpful there.
I think you provide a terrific service. Just recently I recommended your service to a server whose niece has similar problems. She liked the card a lot.
I don’t believe the cards need improvement. I find they works just fine for me. I like the plastic cards as I am comfortable with the waitstaff taking them away into the kitchen or wherever they want to take it. I'm not comfortable with handing my phone to a server and having them take it into the kitchen so I avoid those food allergy phone apps."
